The Durianrider YouTube Channel was shut down yesterday, October 15, 2017.  Harley Johnstone’s main channel Durianrider was over 9 years old and had +170 million views. In the videos that he posted on his two other channels (Durianrider Cycling Tips and TheRawvoice), he stated that someone supposedly purchased bots to pump up views on his videos or used them to take down his flag his channel, forcing YouTube to shut down his channel.

As Durianrider is known to skirt the line of cyber bullying and click bait, this is quite surprising that YouTube would go as far as they did without any warning. All YouTube natives know of Durianrider and his tactics. Most know to stay away or take what he says with a grain of salt. While he seems to have a few screws missing, he does on occasions make great points when discussing cycling and vegan dieting. But just like everything else on the internet you can’t believe everything you read or watch.

In the videos, Johnstone mentions he never received a strike on his channel. I find that hard to believe. He skirted the line so maybe he never received one. I know outside of YouTube, at least one person (Kayla Itsines) has been known to go after Johnstoner with a lawsuit. Kayla, Harley and Freelee the Banana Girl settled before litigation.

“Community Guidelines strikes are issued when our reviewers are notified of a violation of the Community Guidelines. This includes but is not limited to videos that contain nudity or sexual content, violent or graphic content, harmful or dangerous content, hateful content, threats, spam, misleading metadata, or scams.”

Did Durianrider deserve to have his YouTube channel taken down? Or, do you think he hid his channel to create views?
